Naharani 2021 Upper Assam Wild Agarwood Chips - Hindi Oud

Jungle : Naharani - Upper Assam - Sivasagar District
Class : Backyard Wild (planted in the wild and allowed to self-inoculate) Harvested February 2021

I’ve included both the edits and the original photos for context - as the edited photos really help the resin pop ...

Really nice micro lot of “backyard wild” from Naharani area of Sivsagar - an area particularly well-known for producing great Assamese teas with leathery overtones and Heather ‘n Honey undertones.

Take note of the Red and Oranges in the resin - indicators of good quality wood with notes of spice and honey.

The lot has some pieces with more Purple’ish resin - an indicator for more Leather and Hay, peppered with Red and Orange - as well as some pieces that are much more Red / Orange dominant, which will have stronger spice and sweetness to them. It’s a bit of a kaleidoscope flavor in this batch!

Small lot and really great value from this corner of Sivsagar pushing down closer to the border of Nagaland.

ABOUT THE REGION

Sivasagar, formerly known as Rangpur, was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom from 1699 to 1788. The Ahoms ruled Assam for six centuries until their kingdom fell to the Burmese in 1819 and their ruling class was all but wiped out.

The province was conquered by the British in 1825 and was completely annexed in 1826. For administrative purposes, it was divided into three sub-divisions.

It is said that the original name of Sivasagar was - ‘Kalansupar’ after the name of ‘Kalansu Gohain’ who resided in a village that originally existed in the place where currently the Sivasagar tank is located.
