Hemp Macrame Anklet with Cowrie Shells

I personally craft all of my jewelry in Byron Bay, Australia.

This is a hemp twine anklet with a beautiful Cowrie Shells, woven using the knot stitch. This anklet clasps easily around the ankle using a strong wooden bead through the knot technique. It reacts well to water, and can be worn on the beach and in the ocean, however we do recommend removing any jewellery before swimming in the surf.

The average length of an anklet is 9.5 inches.

I personally craft all of my jewelry in Byron Bay, Australia. This piece is completely natural. I don’t use synthetic materials so this necklace is just hemp, shells, and a wooden clasp. ?

Cowrie shells represent the feminine, fertility, birth, as well as prosperity. According to the African legends, the cowrie shells are representing the goddess protection which is highly powerful and is connected with the strength and power of the Ocean.

Hemp is incredibly durable in and out of water, salt or fresh. For thousands of years, 90% of all ships’ sails and rope were made from hemp. 
80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, and so on were made from hemp until the 1820s, with the introduction of the cotton gin. Hemp is gorgeous textile and thankfully, on the rise again.
