10 x Rainbow Candy Cane Christmas Charms, Resin Craft Supplies, This striking 18th century French copper water kettle (“Bouilloire” in French) is around 300 years old. It is an incredible piece due to its size. It is so BIG! Holding 12L as it is indicated on the handle, a piece like this is hard to find and only a few were ever made.Only a large estate or castle would have had the need for it.We will call this one the Queen of Kettles!The dovetails and spout make it a really charming kettle that we’re pleased to tell you more about. USAGE (then and now)Used to boil or heat water, it was placed directly over the fireplace or on the stove. Kettles this size and this old are rare to come by indicating that it was owned by a large household or chateau. Today you could use it to boil water as well you’d just need to have the interior retinned. Otherwise it would make for a standout decorative item in any corner of the house. WHAT MAKES THIS PIECE UNIQUE (assembly, condition)What we like about this piece is the very elegant shape and unique design. The spout is curved with a snake tongue and tiny lid to prevent the steam from seeping out!Most importantly, the assembly marks can be seen on the side and bottom where the copper was joined together by the coppersmith and made waterproof. In French, those marks are called “Assemblage en dents de loup” which literally translates to “assembly in wolf#39;s teeth” typical of the 18th century.The nice glow of the copper makes it a very nice decorative piece with tons of charms to stand in a kitchen, a restaurant or any place with a taste for history.When being refurbished, the exterior was polished so it really radiates in the light and accentuates the light hammering marks where the copper was tapped into shape. We want to emphasize the fact that we are selling a quality piece, of over 300 years, made in France by hand.
